Amana Radarange RR-4

Casio 121-L

Description

Amana Radarange RR-4 circa 1972

This microwave was incroduced late in 1971. There is an electrically operated selenoid which acts as a safety interlock to prefent the door to operate when the oven is operating. For this model, Amana changed the LIGHT button from blue (which was used on the previous models) to white. This model uses a heafty electromagent, and still contains a motorized stirrer as opposed to the spinning tray used in modern maicrowaves.

This particular model lacks the defrost function making it somewhat rarer compared to the RR-4d. The apprizimate wight of this machine is 90lbs.

When repairing these, be sure to remove the right side panel and replace the foam strip which will have disintegrated by now. The power cords on these tend to detereorate, so for safety resasons they should always be replaced before they are left plugged in unattended. Also, there is a 80uf / 450v capacitor across the magnetron coil. Since electrolytics do not age well, and these are pushing 45+ years old they should be replaced for reasons of reliability. A great time to replace this is while the power cord is being done. Capacitors should be discharged prior to removal to prevent the risk of electric shock.

Note:

There is a small switch underneath the right hand front corner of the machine which is often missed. This switch us used to turn the buzzer either off or on.
